Profession Tax
The tax levied by different State governments on salaried individuals as well as practicing professionals is called Profession Tax. It is charged as a deduction from the salary of the employees and the same is deposited by the employer to the government.
Who is required to take Profession tax registration?
Business owners who are responsible to deduct Ptax from their salary of their employees have to take Ptax registration. Professional such as CA, lawyers or doctors etc. also have to take Ptax registration and pay Ptax to the government on their own.
Is there any exemption available from Profession Tax?
Yes, different states impose their own criteria for exemption from payment of profession tax by a certain class of individuals. However, some common criteria for exemption are as follows:
- The individual is a personal with disability
- The individual is a parent/ guardian of a mentally or permanently disabled child
- The person is a member of the forces mentioned in the Army Act, 1950, serving the state
- The person is a senior citizen above 65 years of age
- The person is a female agent of Mahila Pradhan Kshetriya Bachat Yojna of Director of Small Savings.
