Digital Signature Certificates
Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is the digital equivalent (that is electronic format) of physical or paper certificate. A DSC can be used to verify one’s identity, to access information or services on the Internet or to sign certain documents digitally. Documents signed via DSC are also acceptable in the court of law as an evidence or proof.
In present day, the use to physical forms has declined drastically and e-forms have come into picture. To certify any e-document or e-form, a DSC is a prerequisite.
There are 3 categories of DSC:
Class 1
Used to secure emails. Can be issued for individual as well as business use
Class 2
Used for filing returns of Income, GST, etc. Used in the incorporation of companies
Class 3
Most secured class of DSC. Used for participating in e-tendering and e-auctions
DSC may be valid for a period of 1 or 2 years after which they need to be renewed.
