    Every individual/ Company/LLP registered under the GST Act has to file regular returns at the GST portal giving details of sales, purchases and taxes paid by it during the tax period.

    The filing of GST returns can be done online by logging in at www.gst.gov.in

    The businessmen exercising control over the business are responsible for filing timely GST returns. However, you can also hire a GST Return preparer for the purpose.

    * Taxpayers with Turnover up to 1.5 crores in the previous year may opt for quarterly filing of GSTR 1. Due date in such case is the last day of the month following the quarter.

    Penalty:

    Failure to file the return on due date may attract penalty of Rs. 100 per day (for CGST and SGST separately). However, the maximum amount of Penalty cannot exceed Rs. 5,000.
